The Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis
5.0
Historical fiction mystery-thriller for the win! I’m not always a huge mystery fan because I feel they tend to be slow and drawn out, but this had a hint of thriller thrown in and the dual timelines helped keep me engaged.
This is a story of Lillian Carter and her life after losing her mother to the Spanish Flu. After losing her mother, Lillian unexpectantly becomes a private secretary to the wealthy, cantankerous, Helen Frick. Lillia plans on staying only long enough to save enough money to move out west to become a movie star but things go sideways and Lillian is blamed for not only the death of Henry Clay Frick, but for stealing the Magnolia diamond.
Nearly fifty years later, model Veronica Weber is stuck in the Frick Mansion, now turned museum, after a photoshoot, due to a snow storm. Veronica and Joshua, who is an art intern, follow clues left by Helen for her love interest. The clues lead them to solving the decades old murder of the Henry Clay Frick. With the help of Helen, they track down Lillian and get justice, once and for all.
This engaging ride was a fun one! It kept me on my toes until the last moment. I give this a 5/5.
