House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland

5.0

I am in awe of how good this book is. House of Hollow is an intoxicating and poisonous labyrinth of a book. Sutherland’s prose is beautiful and grotesque, just like the carrion flowers that act as a motif throughout the story. It’s a story about secrets and sisterhood, and the dangerous lengths some will go for family. But aside even from that, it's just a damn good book. There wasn't a moment of boredom throughout the audio's 9+ hours. It's immersive and it's gruesome and it's beautiful, and even though some things are predictable, you still get shivers when they come to pass. Reading this book is like the feeling of walking into a dark house and expecting to find a body around every corner. It is relentless, and it will get inside of you. The world Sutherland has created is entrancing; it's the nightclub pulse, the spiked drink, the flowers growing ugly from the concrete. It's Snow White decomposing under glass, and it's every dark, enchanted forest of every childhood. This is a new favorite.
