Last time i read this i was 13 and its really held up! Ive changed a lot in terms of my political views and understanding of history so i can really appreciate the depth of libba brays research and her skill in crafting that knowledge into such a terrifying and profound story.

One thing i love about her use of multiple diverse character perspectives is the way historical events are pieced together for the reader not from the author telling us what happened, but from people living through an event experiencing the fears, hopes, sadnesses, and hatred as it unfolded. It gives a sense of personhood and agency to these actors, nailing the message of how fascism can come up from any one of us
