The New Foxe's Book Of Martyrs by John Foxe

challenging dark sad slow-paced

1.0

Here’s what this book is about:”Two thousand years of martyrs. For nearly 2000 years, courageous men and women have been tortured and killed because of their confessions of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The New Foxe's Book of Martyrs tells their stories. Stories of heroic courage and overcoming faith. Stories of love of God and Christ. Stories of the amazing grace of God that enabled men, women, and children to endure persecutions and often horrible deaths.”

I listened to this book on Audible. I wanted to read this book because I found a physical copy of this book when my family and I were cleaning out my grandma’s house. I wonder if my grandma ever read this book. My grandma has passed away since then but this book sounded interesting to me even though I wasn’t sure if I wanted to hear about Christians dying. It was interesting hearing the stories of the martyrs throughout history but I found this book to be slow, depressing and emotionally heavy. It was difficult for me to hear about how the martyrs died. I couldn’t listen to this book very much. I listened to 2 or 3 chapters of the audiobook and then I had to turn it off because sometimes, hearing about the violence in the stories was too much. I’m not reading any more books like this ever again. If you don’t like a lot of violence in books, I wouldn’t recommend this. This was too much violence for me.
