Second chance story for the win! Honestly second chance stories are hit or miss for me. So many things go into play; why did they split in the first place, how old were they, how much time has passed, character growth??
Sammy and Will are childhood best friends who are inseparable until Will’s mom marries and Will moves away pretty suddenly the summer they’re 10/11.
Fast forward 7 years later and Will is back in town for the summer after graduation and he and Sammy end up rekindling their relationship and ultimately taking things further than just friendship. Sammy however has the weight of the world on his shoulders, with taking care of his brother and himself, their mom leaving, and possible homelessness. He loves Will so much that he pushes Will away so Will doesn’t give up his future, breaking Will’s heart and his own.
The story jumps about 10 years after the split and Will is moving back after a bad divorce. He and Sammy reunite after he wins a welding lesson at a charity event, the lesson being given by Sammy.
Will is irritated with Sammy but Sammy is so patient with Will and explains everything to him and why he did what he did when they were younger. Sammy really proves himself to Will but Will’s really holding Sammy at arms length.
This story was a wonderful second chance story. Sammy had wonderful character growth development. It’s happy, sad, emotional…..The side characters were amazing, Will’s mom and his friend Jason (whose story I’m really looking forward to) were the best. I definitely recommend if you love second chance, friends to lovers, and/or hurt/comfort.
