The Whims of Hate: A Science Fantasy M/M Monster Romance by Mell R. Bright, Mell R. Bright

5.0

Fantastic! Loved it!

This is an absolutely fantastic continuation to the Monstrous Whims series!! I swore after the first book Mell could NOT convince me to like Oliver. Ever. Well, guess what, I was WRONG.

The dynamic in this book was a complete surprise, and I loved it! Jude is such a BAMF, and we learned so much about him! I’m not sure I’ve ever read a better enemies to lovers! They hated one another into loving each other!

The more I learn about the scientists who created the mutants I hate them more and more. You can clearly see between each book how the theory/argument of nature vs nurture played out. These individuals (so far) are a product of their upbringing and their environment. Oliver in particular had a terrible childhood full of torture and experimentation and devoid of live and nurturing. It in no way excuses how he acts but he is very different to Griffin whose childhood was nearly the exact opposite. I really feel for the mutants, beings created for a specific purpose and abandoned when the results didn’t pan out.

Jude has a core of steel. Born into an absolutely ruthless family and seemingly unanimously hated, Jude had to learn pretty quickly how to survive against all odds. What an excellent character. He may be the only person alive who could tame Oliver, his perfect match. They are so hot together, lemme tell ya!

What a great series, truly a hidden gem! I can’t wait to have the physical copy in my hands!

TW: blood, violence, toxic relationships (that become healthy), explicit sex scenes, death, and SA.
