Maeve's character really carried a brunt of this book, I saw so much of myself in her. Her character development throughout was mostly satisfying but some areas felt rushed (same goes for Phoebe and Knox's characters).

A lot of my issues with this book stem from the pacing, it was too slow in some spots and was too fast in others. The first book was just such a classic and well thought out mystery that it felt like this book was trying too hard to be more dramatic and intense than the first one was. The last plot twist really surprised me when I first read it, even on my reread because I somehow completely forgot about it.

My least favorite part is a spoiler:
I really didn't like how the main suspect ended up being someone we didn't even know until it was basically confirmed he did it. One of my favorite things about a mystery is that I can be in the characters shoes and try to figure out who did it myself. So to have some guy be responsible for it was such a let down because I never had a chance to figure it out for myself.
