The Moth Keeper by K. O'Neill
5.0
K. O’Neill does it again - a beautiful, gentle story about the importance of community and nature.
This time there’s a town in the desert that was given a gift by the Moon-Spirit for becoming nocturnal: moths which pollinate a special plant which in turn help the community prosper. But the moths need someone to guide them, the moth keeper, whom we follow as she grows into her role.
It needs no saying at this point, but the illustrations are gorgeous! I especially love how the style changes when recounting stories, and how mundane life in the night-village is showcased. The pollinator-plant relationship at the heart of the story made my biologist heart so happy, and themes of loneliness, responsibility and friendship are explored gently and beautifully.
