I knew from the moment the author announced this book that it was going to be a painful one to read. And OMG, yes it was!

I have read several of the reviews and agree with them, so I am not going to repeat what has already been written.

What I do want to point out is how incredible [a:Ashley James|17766536|Ashley James|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] has described Crew's addiction. His thoughts, and his consequent reactions/actions. How the addiction controls and manages him. She perfectly describes what his fall to drugs is like, and how this addiction sinks its claws into him. How he feels isolated and abandoned and how because of that he clings to the one thing that is constant in his life, his friendship with Anderson and the fear he has of losing him.

It is also remarkable that she describes them, not just Crew but Anderson too, as human beings with all the flaws inherent to their years. I mean, we're used to reading two people who know each other, and they're "perfect" and they go straight on with their feelings for each other and it all works out fast. And while it is nice to read something like that, this reality that she shows us is much more believable because if us, being adults and with a life already lived, make wrong decisions, how we hope that young people who are just starting out do not make mistakes or take wrong and tortuous paths before reaching the right one?

Even though I cried at some parts, got angry at others, and suffered for both characters, I'm glad I read [b:Illicit Desires|60885668|Illicit Desires (The Deepest Desires #3)|Ashley James|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1661966859l/60885668._SX50_.jpg|96028955]. I'm glad I read the whole series. And it is certain that I will continue reading what this talented author writes, because I am sure that each one of her books will be just as incredible.

I was giving an advanced copy of this book and I voluntarily wrote a review.
