The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
3.0
A bit of a struggle, but there's some beauty in there somewhere. The opening felt like it was very long and rambly and there were a lot of characters named but not particularly introduced well, so I had real trouble keeping track of what was happening.
The introduction to Ursa was when it sort of kicked into gear for me, but at times I still found it quite overwhelming with the number of side characters whose relationships were hard to keep track of. But I loved the relationship between Ursa and Maren, and the actual plot and storyline was really gripping. I just wish it had meandered a little bit less and been a little easier to follow!
