Take This Regret is the first book in The Regret Series by A. L. Jackson. I’ve already listened to the prequel story explaining Christina and Elizabeth’s origins and how they first came to know each other. REading the prequel isn’t necessary to understand the first book but it kind of did give the characters a bit more background.

I did really enjoy listening to the audiobook of this but found it to be a rather difficult one to listen to simply for the subject matter. I’m not very much into second-chance romances, especially those with an immature MC, but this one wasn’t that bad.

That being said, I don’t feel I can classify this as a ‘Romance’ novel as the main bulk of the book was about Christian’s interaction with Lizzie. Only about 5% of the whole book was dedicated to the relationship and feelings between Elizabeth and Christian. It was lovely to read a book about a father stepping up, making a difference in his child’s life after being absent for so long, and seeing the relationship grow between father and daughter.

The narrative did seem a little repetitive in places and did drag out on occasion. I was expecting a romance novel which I don’t feel this was tbh, so for those things I rate it 3.5 stars. All in all, it was a touching little story with an almost bittersweet HEA and for those looking for a book about a relationship between a father and child and building on a broken heart I would recommend it.
