Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

5.0

Short Review: I have read this more than just about any book I have read. I would guess in the range of 15 or so times. I have also read the original book, the author's definitive edition, the 20th anniversary audiobook, the original audiobook, listened to the new radio drama version. And read a lot of the short stories and the Ender's Shadow books that tell the story from a different perspective.

So I wrote up a short post on some of the main differences between the definitive edition and the new radio drama. When I reviewed the radio drama I called it an abridgement. And I got some push back because OSC had written new characters and scenes for it. So I re-read the book again and noted a lot of the changes. I am not claiming a complete list, but rather focusing on the ones that seem to make a difference to the story.

My full post is on my blog at http://bookwi.se/ender/

But a short teaser list is:

- very different character of Bean (although this is mostly about Ender's Shadow)
- the Bonzo shower scene has a very different set up
- the Giant's game is both compressed and increases importance
- a psychologist helps analyze Ender
- Dr Device is used in almost every battle in the original book and only in the last battle in the Alive version
