The One with the Kiss Cam by Cindy Steel is, hands down, my favorite read of 2023. This story is OUTSTANDING. I tried to pace myself, I really did, but I could not help myself. I devoured this story. I even read at work and I never, ever have time to do that…well, unless it’s another stack of essays to grade. Anyway, I loved absolutely everything about this book. I enjoyed the premise, and the pacing is perfect. I very much found the kiss cam moment both hilarious and sweet, and the non-date afterward made my heart swoon. When Duke and Nora make their way back to one another three years after the kiss cam incident, I was deliriously happy. I enjoyed their interactions as they try so desperately to not let their feelings get in the way of a good working relationship, but so very glad when they couldn’t resist each other. The witty banter and flirty jokes were super fun and had me chuckling quite a bit. This was another one of those stories where I would stop my husband doing whatever he was doing just to read whole passages of dialogue to him so he could share in the laughter. As far as characters go, Steel has crafted a whole cast of characters I won’t soon forget. Nora is an excellent heroine. Man, my heart hurt for her! This girl cannot catch a break. Every time she turns around she’s getting disappointing news, or someone’s taking advantage of her again, or someone is being mean to her. I wanted to slap a lot of secondary characters. LOL! But her spirit is indomitable. Nora refuses to be a victim and she won’t let anything keep her down. In this, she truly is inspiring and encouraging. Then there are Duke’s grandparents…best secondary characters ever. They are so endearing and so quirky and so hilarious. I loved how they immediately took to Nora and wanted to make her one of their people. So sweet! Of all the things I loved about this novel, Duke is my most favorite. He is the best hero ever and will now be the measure which I use when judging future fictional heroes. He wormed his way into my heart by chapter 2 and did not let go. I love how patient he is. I love how he pays attention to every single detail. And I love how he fights to protect Nora, to help her through everything, and to wake her up to just how amazing she is. He is truly the best kind of hero!

I could continue to gush and gush over this amazing story, but I’ll stop so I don’t accidentally spoil a single moment. Suffice to say, The One with the Kiss Cam is the perfect Contemporary RomCom. I cannot recommend it enough. If you are a fan of excellent Contemporary Romances, then this is the book you do not want to miss.
