Homo Deus: A History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari
5.0
One of the most well organized, insightful and well-argued books I have read. While it comes to a relatively concise thesis, there are so many historical stories and explanations of studies within it I felt like I learned many things about the world. Harari does a great job of stepping back to view the world in an objective way, and I absolutely agree with his thoughts and predictions.
The one thing I wished was for him to discuss the implications of superhumans/Dataism/lack of democracy on humans. I'm not sure if there would be studies on this sort of thing but I would be very interested if there was, or just to read the philosophical insights of him. I can't even imagine the psychological trauma of people having no importance/meaning/skills under new technologies, and how people would cope. All of history people have surely had to work to survive, so in the case of being pushed out of jobs and have all our thoughts and desires taken care of, I believe it would be worse than anyone could imagine. Riots, violence, mental stability - it surely would worsen if our lives led no meaning & we were under the power of much stronger species.
I would highly recommend Homo Deus, it was easy to read and accessible (thank you for a PHD author that doesn't use excessive jargon), extremely interesting, and I don't believe I'll forget about it anytime soon.
