Fool Me Twice by Ariana Nash

5.0

It's no secret that this author is one of my favorites. I never tire of saying, every time I review one of her books, how amazed I'm at how her mind works when it comes to telling a story. Somehow, she feeds that part of me that needs to dive into a dark world from time to time. Her stories are never easy to read. They are distressing, unsettling and dark, and often have a longer list of TW than the list I usually do for my monthly purchases. But the incredible description of the worlds that she creates, so full of details that they are extremely vivid, as well as the complex characters with even more complex relationships between them, with layers and layers on top of them that until the last moment we don't finish peeling, to those that she brings to life make a wonderful story, and despite the warnings, highly recommended to read.

Lark and Arin are no exception. My heart broke for Lark so many times throughout his journey (both in the first book and this one) that at one point I decided to take a breather and stop reading it for a few days. And while during the previous book I wasn't a big fan of Arin, I must say that in this second part he ended up getting under my skin and into my heart. They love each other deeply but they cannot enjoy it, since both must fight to survive and save the kingdoms, which leads them to go through betrayals, mistrust and self-sacrifice, but their love never wavers, and luckily, they reach the end of the journey beaten, broken, but finally, together.

I don't want say more. I think it's one of those stories where you have to go in blind, without thinking too much about it and judge for yourself (just pay attention to the TW) and enjoy it.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
