Goes to a dark place but pulls back out again

I had a difficult time with the first half of this novel because of the references to sexual violence or the usage of bodies in exchange of power or blackmail. It made me sick at a certain point, but I love Brittainy Cherry so I kept reading and I'm so glad I did. The second half is great. Everyone helps and fixes each other in such an amazing way. Great read, just beware the first half gets pretty dark.
