The world building is well done; not too deeply sci-fi that people who may not like the genre can still get into the story. There’s a Hunger Games feel to it, with the faction-like separation of Divergent, but with a world made more complex for the characters (not saying either of those series weren’t complex, this one is just bloodier, the rage and actions of said rage more prevalent on the page).

The MMC is likable, and since we’re only in his head we see the world as he does—even when it’s less than reliable. He believes himself one thing, but as the story moves on the reader is definitely shown how complicated this game of his is and what it may truly cost him in the end.

I’m eager to read the rest of the series.

TW: mention of rape, but never on page details.
