A World Without You by Beth Revis

Beth Revis is one of my favorite authors, and I have been looking forward to reading A World Without You ever since she mentioned she would be writing it. Having finally finished it, I really enjoyed reading this book! Mental illness generally is not a subject matter I generally seek out to read, but I thought Revis made an extremely interesting and captivating story, and it's a book that I already want to read again.

One of the most common complaints in other reviews is that readers thought this book would be paranormal or sci-fi, not about mental illness. However, Revis never tried to trick readers about the book's subject, and I thought the subject was easy to tell from the book jacket and summary.

My favorite parts of the book were Bo's perspective, his storytelling, and Phoebe's character. Bo's perspective - while not as straightforward and coherent as what we are used to (which is the entire point) - is fun to read and brings up so many questions. How do you determine what is or is not reality? How do you proceed if your reality is different from everyone else? What even is 'normal'? Phoebe, Bo's sister, is almost painfully relatable to me and the few parts of the book from her perspective give the reader further insight into Bo's story.

This book played with all of my emotions, but overall it was a truly enjoyable read and I look forward to the next time I pick it up.
