A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis

4.0

I’ve read large sections of this book, or collection of journal entries. It isn’t, as I had believed, a reflection on his grief after the passing of his wife, and his grief fits into the schematic of Christian life, but rather journal entries from the midst of that grief.

Imagine feeling concussed, in his own words, bitter, and sad, and still writing with such clarity and depth that people just like know quotes from what is essentially your diary without having ever read it.

Also, I don’t want to give it a “rating” for that reason, and because while I’ve dealt with grief if my own, nothing nearly as profound as the loss of a spouse.

EDIT 8/3/20: Also also, i’m at some of the sections of this in my year with Lewis book and i really want to highlight the sections of A Grief Observed that are about how they would be separated by death, regardless. it’s a note for myself, to return to later, but even read 250 of this at a time is hard.
