Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer

5.0

I look back to when I was a child, and I remember my father once telling me to stay away from one of my friends because she was Mormon. He told me that "Mormon's aren't Christians," and he didn't want me getting anywhere near any family who believed in the teachings of the Book of Mormon. Now, granted, he did this for pretty much every other religion too because "our way" was the only way growing up.

Now, much older and wiser, I really resent my closed-minded father for not letting me explore religion a little more. However, after reading Under the Banner of Heaven and learning about how the Mormon religion started and developed, I don't think I would have gone down that road anyway.

Now, I'm not saying Mormons are bad people because they aren't. I have plenty of Mormon students, and, for the most part, they are the most amazing students! However, my eyes were opened up after reading this book. It centers around a murder my two FLDS members, but it goes so much furthur than that. It goes into the history of the Mormon religion, and this is where my eyes were truly opened up. Again, all he does is present facts, and those facts are amazing!
