Again a rompy one, in the vein of The Secret Adversry with an enormously 'plucky' heroine who spouts the greatest, mysogynisc nonsense - which is very much true to the time it was written. I would almost say it's accidentally feminist in certain ways - the way Anne goes to South Africa and strikes up a female friendship that sometimes actually passes the Bechdel test. I wouldn't reread this, but I am glad I gave this one a chance at last.
