Birds of America by Lorrie Moore
3.0
Giving it three stars even though I'm not going to finish it because it is so exquisitely written. Metaphors that make your head spin! I loved "Willing," "Which is More than I Can Say...," and "Dance in America." The rest just felt like a bunch of vignettes about sad middle-aged people cheating on each other, and as a 22-year-old I didn't find most of the stories compelling or relatable. I also feel that the writing style, subject matter, and tone got repetitive after a while. A lot of it made me laugh; nevertheless a lot of it (esp. towards the middle of the book) was depressing, and not really in a charming/poignant way. Perhaps it wasn't for me, but I did enjoy a lot of what I read.
