Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery

3.0

I ended up liking this a lot. It took me a while to get into - I felt like the beginning, with Anne getting to college, was almost just sketched-in - a very great deal of telling, not showing. And I haaaated Phil at the start - I felt like the author liked her so much that she assumed the readers would like her, even though she gave us no reason to. But it picked up about a quarter of the way in and I ended up really enjoying it. I DID end up loving Phil, and I loved the place the girls lived, and the cats, and the dog statues, and Anne DETERMINED to fuck things up with Gilbert. It was a VERY satisfying read, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
