Letters to Felice by Elias Canetti, Franz Kafka
4.0
I did enjoy this book, and I think it gives me a different window view into Kafka’s literary works -knowing this intimate side of how his mind worked. It took me awhile to get through it and at times it felt like all I was reading was letters about when other letters would be written or would arrive. I also felt a woman’s silencing, that these are only Kafka’s letters, and no letters FROM Felice were included. It gave me this frustration of a woman’s voice being mute in history. But at a point it felt like he started to more acknowledge her thoughts and ideas and what she felt came through to a degree. There are also moments of great beauty and insight into the experience of being outside of societal norms, and dare I say neurodivergence.
