The Hero of This Book by Elizabeth McCracken

2.0

2 1/2, I guess. I tried to like it. The prose was very nice to read. Eventually, a picture of the mother (and a bit of the narrator) emerged. I skipped most of the last half and just read the last 10, pages or so to see if anything momentous happened. But it really didn’t.

It’s odd that at the end she writes a dialogue between the narrator and her mother to the effect that she’s writing so her mother doesn’t evenesce. For me, it was a book of continuous evanescence where I wasn’t able to remember what had come before. Very odd.

(Read for May 2, 2023 book group.)
