Say My Name by Ashley James

5.0

I've been wanting to read Travis' story ever since I read The Deepest Desires series. Even though Travis was a secondary character in that one (very veeeery secondary, to the point that we didn't even know his real name, was it Troy... Tony... Travis?), somehow it stuck with many of the author's fans who read that series. The desire to read more about him grew when the author gave us a short novel included in the Anti-Valentine Anthology, where she introduced his romantic interest, Mateo. So after that, I NEEDED to know what happened to them.

And finally, here we have the full story, and I have to say, I am not at all disappointed!

After five years together, Travis caught his boyfriend cheating on him in their own bed. Needless to say, he dumped him. This was a huge eye-opener for Travis, who began to see all the ways his ex had manipulated him, and how toxic his relationship had been. But his... shall we say bad luck? it didn't end there. He moved to a new apartment, where he discovered that his neighbor was none other than the man whom his ex had cheated him on with.

There began a relationship where Travis, despite he couldn't stand this man, he still felt attracted to him in an inexplicable way. Mateo made him feel things, when they were together, that he hadn't felt for anyone. Made him do things, naughty, steamy things, he never made with anyone. Between them there was a chemistry, an invisible connection that the more time they spent together, the more it became noticeable. Somehow, they seemed like kindred spirits. For Travis this was a hard pill to swallow. Mateo was not only the man he could n't stop seeing in his mind as the one fucking his ex, but also his personality was that of a man who was too confident and self-assured, too conceited and arrogant.

However, all of this hid a vulnerable side that Mateo did not let anyone see. He too had been hurt in the past, he knew what it was like to be cheated on, and even though he hadn't meant to hurt Travis since he didn't know that Nate had a boyfriend, he kept it to himself. He was drawn to Travis from the first moment he saw him, and when the opportunity presented itself, he used everything he had at his disposal to attract him and keep him by his side.

I loved their relationship. I loved how little by little they got to know each other to the point that in the end they allowed themselves to be vulnerable together, and that they were honest about where they stood and able to trust in each other. Like I said, the chemistry between them was incredible. Deep, hot and sensual, and when they added the emotional connection to that... It just blew my mind.

This book reminded me why I started reading this author. How great she is at telling a story. How well she describes the bonds that form between MCs, not just physical, but also when feelings get involved. How they complement each other. What else can I say? It is a story that I really recommend reading.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
