The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

4.0

i did not expect this book to be how is it. i was expecting to read through a YA story of how a woman is forgotten by everyone because she made a deal with the devil and she now has to figure out her way through life. granted, it’s a little like i expected but so much more sad.

i was not expecting the relationship that grew between Luc and Addie. the love she thought she had for him because he was the only one who wouldn’t forget her, who could say her name, who was shown to her like her Stranger. the games they played with each other were draw dropping, between New Orleans and then the ending. Luc basically taught her how to play the long game by New Orleans, and she took that and spun it on him in the end by saying “as long as you’ll have me”.

Henry Strauss. i felt for him a lot throughout the story. him not feeling enough, then after the deal was made, people not seeing him for him and seeing whoever they wanted/needed. i knew from very early on reading about henry that he also made a deal, but i wasn’t sure why or what it was. i knew people were attracted to him in a sort of nice way, but i didn’t understand the nuances. then the ending just broke me.

to be honest, im not sure why addie made the deal to be that he lives and she goes with luc. henry loses his love was what got him here in the first place. although, addie saw him for who he is and he was enough for her. but i still felt horrible for henry for being left alone (romantically). but the fact that he ensured the only name on his book was addie’s made me sob. that was the most beautiful part of the book. he gave her that gift so that her name could be spoken throughout the world, throughout time. her story would be known by millions. i love henry strauss.
