The sequel to What the River Knows, and conclusion to this duology, this book picks up right where the last book left off, which was great since we were left hanging! I definitely had to do some reviewing of the previous book to remind myself of what was going on, but once I was fully immersed again, I was completely along for the ride!

Inez and Whit continue in their quest to find Inez's mother and the Chrysopaeia of Cleopatra, but their relationship becomes increasingly complex, as does their mission. They are hounded by illegal antiquities dealers and government officials, and characters from the first book come back to play a more significant role in book two.

I loved this book for the romantic tension that had some old school classic lit vibes, as well as the strong, feisty female lead and her counterpart, Whit. Whit was the perfectly written male lead, with his own motivations and questionable actions, but who is really a partner in all of Inez's crazy schemes.

This book has some National Treasure vibes, and you definitely have to suspend disbelief to roll with the conclusion of this story, but it's completely worth it.

I'm so glad I finally finished this duology and made it my first read of 2025!
