Sininen by Maja Lunde
3.0
I think Maja Lunde is good at including environmental themes in fictional stories and creating intertwined storylines, but I struggle with connecting to the characters. The End of the Ocean has two points of view: Norwegian activist Signe in 2019, and French father David in 2041. Water is central for both characters, and especially David’s story can be eye opening for many as it shows how in a couple of decades the Mediterranean countries can be so dry that people are forced to flee to camps. That is uncomfortable to read about, but I was also bored. I will continue with the climate quartet though, because the themes in the last two books (animals and trees) really intrigue me, and I want to see how Lunde approaches them.
I listened to the Finnish version, translated by Katriina Huttunen and read by Panu Kangas and Erja Manto.
