The Arsonists' City by Hala Alyan

5.0

I sat with this book for a long time because I was selfish and didn’t want it to end. But all things end and I’m so glad that I read The Arsonists’ City.

The characters in this book were beautifully flawed. There was no right or wrong, all of the characters had their secrets in one way or another. These characters were beautiful and strong, dark and weak, they were human, so wonderfully human. At times while reading I cried, I laughed, I raged, I felt feelings I had thought were tucked deep down inside never to see the light again. It opened me, made me raw and vulnerable and taught me so much.

This is a story of family, of love, of loss, of secrets. I fell in love. This is one of the best books I have ever read.
