Something is very very wrong with Mr. and Mrs. Wright. Ten years of marriage and a decade of secrets in, their union is in trouble. When they win a surprise weekend away to a remote Scottish locale, they head off to save their marriage. But they didn’t randomly win this trip…and happily ever after may not be in the cards.
Alice Feeney has crafted one of the best domestic thrillers I’ve read in Rock Paper Scissors. The fast pacing and multiple perspectives and alternating timelines worked so well. The twists just kept coming with this one — I don’t want to reveal too much through my review, but I was surprised more than once! I thought the use of the Rock Paper Scissors in different ways was very clever — as both a game they play in their marriage, and as the title of the husband Adam’s beloved first screenplay. And I thought the husband having the condition of face blindness (not recognizing faces or distinguishing facial features) was ingenious in a thriller! This one was easy to give five stars to—I love a well-plotted thriller that keeps me guessing!
If you’re a thriller lover, read this — such a fantastic and suspenseful novel! If you’re a thriller novice, also read this — a perfect introduction to the genre!
