When I Was Theirs by Evelyn Flood
5.0
The way this book took Love, Grief, Forgiveness, Grace, and Patience and wrapped it all into one was phenomenal! We go through this journey in the beginning with Emmy and Ben! They fall quick and hard! Along with their love comes their hardships with working through past trauma and current illness! The representation of someone with a terminal illness was captured beautifully! You may think Ben selfish when 1st getting into his character but i didn’t see him that way at all! In the back of my mind yes! He encounters Emilia in a panic and immediately helps her. He’s reluctant to move forward with her at first but that gets resolved rather quickly. Now Emilia is on the run. Running from an abusive situation that left her both physically, mentally, and emotionally scarred! She accepts Ben and his flaws wholeheartedly! Especially when she finds out that he’s sick! Emilia was so strong throughout this book! I loved her resilience! Now here comes Jared Bennett. The infamous older brother of Ben Bennett! When we first meet him he comes off as very abrasive but you learn to love him just as much as i do! Had dealt with alcohol dependence while grieving his brother. We get to see the affects of such dependency throughout the rest of the book. Which was very eye opening! Jared does work through his addiction with alcohol and does get better to make himself more worthy of Emilia! Which was great to see! Emilia does have a brief but still traumatic altercation with her ex that set some doubts in motion between Jared and herself but that situation is quickly resolved. Emilia does suffer some physical pain with the brief altercation with her Ex but he gets what he deserves! Emilia does an act of service that i didn’t even see coming and it had me in tears! Anyway as i continued to read on Jared and Emilia’s love for each other grow and flourish! There’s letters from Ben to both of them and once you get to the end you’ll see when Emilia reads her letter! This whole book tore me to shreds but also put me back together by the end of of! EVELYN BABE! You did you thing with this one! I fear it’s your best one yet! Loved every second of this book! Hope you write more of these!
