1984 by George Orwell
5.0
Orwell's most famous work is an expose on authoritarianism, propaganda, society, morality, ego, collectivism, nationalism, and so much more. There's so much to love here, but in a frustrating way. The way that Orwell shows us so much of what happens in our real lives but also shows us our powerlessness to combat much of it.
So many iconic phrases, concepts, and ideas from 1984 have made their way into pop culture and modern art that it's hard to not see it.
Similarly to Clockwork Orange, I don't feel the need to revisit it in the way I do other literary classics, because I consumed it and it's messages (Orwell doesn't hide what he's saying).
