Earwig and the Witch by Diana Wynne Jones

2.0

This... really isn't good. Just as it was getting started, it ended. But more than that, the book has no consequences. Even without being touched by the Bella Yaga's magic, what are the consequences for Earwig of living somewhere her own magic (convincing others) doesn't work? It is just very unlike Jones not to think in terms of the ramifications of magic and the use of magic.

A very poor example of DWJ's work, and yes, I know it's for younger readers, but compare it to equivalents such as Wild Robert. Matching dates, I'd take a guess that this book is essentially unfinished.
