”No forgiveness will ever be enough. And no one but you can make your actions the apology that the dead are owed. Repent and live – and stop asking the dead to take the pain away. They cannot. You will live with it, and that is all.”
This book was so well written and I feel like you really got to experience the inner lives of these characters that have been discussed throughout history, but never with this kind of depth and understanding and humanity. Such a great book if you enjoy mythology; it was funny. It was sad. It was everything I wanted it to be. The quote at the beginning of this review is part of my favorite passage in this book in which Penelope is talking about love and loss and grief and regret and it is exactly what I needed to hear and was not expecting to from a work of fiction.
