Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob by Gerard O'Neill, Dick Lehr
5.0
Oftentimes, I find that these l modern history type books draw out their stories and delve into topics and events that are irrelevant to the story simply for the sake of upgrading the work from long article to book. This was absolutely not the case here. It was suspenseful, well-written, and informative. I also often find myself wishing for a character glossary or constantly referencing a present character glossary in books such as these as well. But in this case, the authors have again done such a good job of writing that I remembered every single one of the extensive number of characters in the book as they weaved in and out of Bulger's story. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to learn more about the infamous gangster and his corrupt relationship with the FBI. This book is also good for those of you who want to analyze every action they ever took in Boston to see if you interacted with one of the many gangs operating there. Spoiler alert: you probably have, according to this book, the whole city is covered in gangsters running business fronts!
