Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn

5.0

A deliciously modern romance, full of witty humor and a love letter to New York City. Artistically woven as an ode to letters themselves, those small components that make up words, in a way that a lover of words and reading will devour in delight.

I find that modern, present day culture in books can sometimes seem out of place or cheesy, nods to things like Instagram or social media, dating apps, whatever it may be. It reads in a way you can tell it will become outdated quickly. With Clayborn’s writing this is not the case! It’s perfectly present but with lasting value.

I felt the characters come alive, Meg and Reid of course, but also the supporting cast Sibby, Lark, Lachelle, and Cecelia. The build up of romance was paced just right, and the city setting was so fun, so accurately depicted and flying off the pages. If you know NYC, or even if you don’t, you’ll find yourself fully immersed there through this story.

A fun, smartly written romance, and a true homage to everything handwritten, with a side nod to numbers. (Two things I adore.) Read this one on the page this summer! Or next summer! I got the title from the Modern Mrs. Darcy summer reading guide, and she was 100% on point to include it there.

“It feels like floating, like being untethered. Like writing without letters. Like counting without numbers. It feels like love.”
