The Dinner by Herman Koch

5.0

My brother suggested I learn nothing about this book (not even the back cover blurb) before diving in. I knew only that it was "about two couples going to dinner" and I strongly suggest the same level of ignorance to anyone with this novel. Page turner. Quick. Clever weaving of characters and story. It's pretty dark in theme but the way the story and backgrounds unravel is really well done. The characters are not likable, but are interesting. The characters managed to shock me without actually behaving "out of character" to how they'd been written.
