Outdrawn by Deanna Grey
5.0
Outdrawn is a captivating novel that follows the story of Sage and Noah, two incredibly talented women working for a comic book company. As they battle it out to prove who can be the best artist in the industry, their rivalry begins to transform into something far deeper and more heartfelt. What starts as a professional competition gradually becomes an exploration of feelings neither of them expected, and watching that unfold was nothing short of magical.
This book was an absolute joy to read from start to finish. The chemistry between Noah and Sage is nothing short of electric. Deanna Grey has done a masterful job in crafting their dynamic—whether it’s their playful banter, the way their senses of humour align perfectly, or the palpable tension that builds between them as the story progresses. It’s rare to find a romance where the characters’ connection feels this natural and genuine, but Grey manages it effortlessly.
What stood out most for me was the depth of these characters. Sage and Noah felt so real and relatable that I found myself connecting with them on multiple levels. Whether it was their struggles with setting boundaries in their personal lives or their shared passion for their art, these were characters I could root for and see pieces of myself in. Grey’s ability to write such multidimensional characters is truly impressive, and it made their journey all the more compelling.
Another highlight of Outdrawn was its balance of tones. The novel is packed with wit and humour, and I found myself laughing out loud at several points. At the same time, it’s also an incredibly wholesome and heartwarming story. The romance between Sage and Noah is slow-burning and deeply satisfying, with moments that left me smiling long after I’d put the book down. Watching them navigate their feelings, support each other, and ultimately fall madly in love was such a rewarding experience.
I also appreciated the underlying themes that the story touched on. Both Sage and Noah have to learn to set boundaries with their families, and seeing them take control of their lives in this way was inspiring. It’s a reminder that personal growth and love often go hand in hand, and Grey weaves these elements into the narrative seamlessly. The way their relationship evolves over time, moving from rivalry to mutual respect and then to a profound, all-encompassing love, was beautifully done.
And also, it was a pleasure to watch two strong black women thrive - not just survive.

Overall, Outdrawn is a witty, funny, and irresistibly charming read that left me completely enchanted. Deanna Grey has created a story that’s not only romantic and entertaining but also deeply moving and relatable. This is a book that I’ll be recommending to anyone who loves a good romance, especially one that’s brimming with humour, heart, and unforgettable characters. I adored every second of it and will definitely be returning to it for a reread in the future.
If you’re looking for a feel-good romance with a dash of creativity and a lot of heart, Outdrawn is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!
