Just astonishing. The best road trip companion. Porter is an incredible narrator. If you haven’t read it, this is one of the rare books for which I think an abridged version could be reasonable: the sections about agriculture are truly essential character development, but they don’t register to modern readers, so they’re actually not essential after all. But I’d also highly recommend getting this audiobook and letting your mind wander when it wants to and then coming back to the absolutely gemlike, hilarious, rich, awful, gorgeous story.
