Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig

1.5/5⭐️
An incredible letdown.
I only made it to page 105. I tried guys. Truly.
My biggest disappointment is not a nitpick, and I think people who have read this might be inclined to agree.
Elm’s entire POV. It made no sense. It is so out of place. The book should’ve only been in Ravyn and Elspeth’s POV, and nightmare. But with Elm comes an entirely new subplot and… a new romance. For some reason.
I hated it because the only reason Elm’s POV was added was because the author wanted to push and force Elm x Ione. Because? The book was lacking in romance as our lead couple is gonna be MIA for a while. I wished we had stayed on track and focused on the plot.
I despise this so much.
Completely ruined the entire story for me.
Not only did they add Elms POV, but every time I read his POV, he’s LEERING at Ione like she’s a piece of meat. Leering. She’s trying to disguise this as romantic tension, but it just comes off utterly creepy. I couldn’t stand it. It was cringe, and it just wasn’t for me.
For some reason she also does not understand how to write men. Because all they seem to be talking about to each other is how beautiful Ione is or their “relationship”, and not the incredibly crippling time pressure of finding the Twin Alders. Subtlety doesn’t exist. The author has to spell out everything for us. It irks me.
I did not want to DNF this book but even the intriguing plot and Nightmare could not save this book for me.
Huge disappointment.
