Palace Walk by Naguib Mahfouz
2.0
This was a long read for me. I'm not sure what is lost with the translation into English, but I felt disconnected a lot. The translation used a lot of simile to make statements and it became tiresome. Some of these similes began to behave as almost a bell ringing each time I encountered one. (Nearly every page.)
The author is a Nobel Prize winner in Literature, so I feel like I really did miss something in translation.
The story itself felt like a lot of backstory for many characters within the family and there was no conclusion to any of their stories save one. It appears to be the first in a trilogy, so perhaps in the other books there is more for these characters.
Ultimately, I'm not of sure what I read in this book.
