Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

5.0

Reread 2023: It's been seven years. Thirteen-year-old me was not a fan. Twenty-year-old me sees herself in Catherine a bit too much for comfort. But the ending! The way she changes! It's wonderful. Also, as a rather reluctant fan of Gothic novels (Wuthering Heights is not my taste at all, and Jane Eyre could do without the supernatural elements and the wife in the attic) I found this book perfectly subverted all of that and made a delightful mockery of girls who are too obsessed with fiction (myself sometimes included).

All in all, this was hilarious and insightful. 4.5 stars :)
