Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

Buddy read with the dear Massiel!!

I’m honestly not sure what to think. On one hand, this book had lovely writing and imagery, and I’m sure the author is a very talented writer. On the other.... I just really couldn’t connect to these characters. Or the romance. Or the storyline at all.

This started off well, it really did. I loved the idea of a girl with poison in her veins, which is why I kind of hated it when
Spoiler she easily destroyed the fire and removed the poison from her body. It basically made her super boring to me.
. Our MC just got really boring and pretty annoying after the previously mentioned situation, and I hated how dumb she was - and I don’t mean academically, I mean common sense wise. I mean, it was so obvious that the evil dude was, well, evil! He was totally sus and I didn’t love it.

I also didn’t really feel any chemistry between either of the couples. I liked that Soraya was bi, but her and Parvaneh were just kind of boring together, and I felt nothing.

All up, this was pretty disappointing, but I still love the cover and the Persian mythology and fairytale-like writing technique! Thank you to my girl Massiel for BR-ing this with me, and to the angel Ash for sending the book to me
