In This Shadow, Longing by Marina Vivancos
5.0
This was such an amazing addition to the Coven Ties Series!
I have been anxiously awaiting Cross’ book while reading books 1 & 2 because I just knew it would be good. Man, was that an understatement! This is easily my favorite book of the series, and the first two are FANTASTIC.
Cross has deeply ingrained trauma that he has not been treated for and this has impacted his ability to maintain his hormone levels as a biological Dom. When this reaches emergency threshold, the coven and Cross agree to call a professional.
Alex has helped many Doms rehabilitate and never gotten attached due to his own past traumatic experience. But Cross is the most urgent case he’s ever seen and this calls for drastic treatment measures.
Cross broke my heart. His inner thoughts and what he felt about himself were truly heart breaking. I’m not an emotional reader in general but every once in a while a book will dig its hooks into me. I personally (and the author from the info on GRR) would consider these thoughts self trust issues and intense self-hatred and passive suicidal ideation. (The intense above is my personal experience). If you are sensitive to the above I implore you to proceed with caution.
Alex was go good with Cross. He was able to unwind some of his thought processes regarding trust and Subs and work towards healthy ‘scening’ (interactions between biological Doms and Subs, not always sexual). This in conjunction with therapy was truly amazing for Cross.
These two were smoking hot when they progressed to the bedroom. They complemented each other perfectly, and once Cross trusted that Alex could handle what he dished out and that he WANTED it, it was amazing. Absolutely beautiful.
I can’t forget the wonderful crew of side characters that created such an amazing support system for Cross and Alex. It was great to see all of them again and they play such a large part of this story and their lives.
Excellent job Marina Vivancos! If I could give this more than 5 stars I absolutely would!
TW: human and animal sacrifice (flashbacks), self-hate, self-trust issues, passive suicidal ideation, past domestic abuse (discussed), kink (specifically pain kink), past mental manipulation related to magic (flashback/discussed), anxiety attacks (on page)
*I received an advanced copy from GRR in exchange for my honest review.*
