THIS BOOK is really good.
It's a shame it hasn't been translated into English yet, because that really would really expand the possible audience for the novel.

The novel is about a 26-year old girl who has a severe depression and is sent to the division for psychiatric patients in the hospital, which is called the PAAZ (Psychiatrische Afdeling Algemeen Ziekenhuis) in Dutch.
I think it really explains mental illnesses really well, as far as I can say. It explains things without patronizing them, and the patients also make jokes about their illnesses, which actually is a really realistic thing. People are just trying to cope and I really liked this view into the world of mental health care and the fact that it breaks the taboo of 'this stuff cannot be talked about'.

It is currently available in Dutch and German, I think, and I sincerely hope this will be translated into English in the future!
