Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

5.0

I don't even know how to begin to write a review of this book. It's whimsical and magical and also horrific and sad - which makes no sense unless you have read it.

I love Piranesi as a character and his connection to the house. I think he's special in ways I will never understand for surviving (actually thriving) in the ways he did. I love his outlook on the beauty of the house, which ties in so nicely at the end.

It's a strange and beautiful book, but it's not the kind of literature that appeals to everyone. I loved it; this is exactly the kind of wonderful book I want to read.

Just the concept of a house with oceans inside was enough for me to want to read this and I am so glad I did. May we all be houses with oceans inside and be open to the beauty of the house in which we all dwell.
