I don’t want to give anything away, but this book took a more hopeful turn than many others of its ilk, and that alone is enough for me to give it 5 stars. That said, the narrative of domestic violence set against the mundanity of a job in a clothing store really anchored it and made it relatable for me. My internal jury is still out on the flashback parts…I think I could have done without explicit child rape scenes, myself.
