Cinder by Marissa Meyer

5.0

I thoroughly enjoyed this unique re-telling of the Cinderella story. Cinder, in this adaptation, is part-cyborg, part Lunar (a race that develops over millennia on the moon's surface). She is a mechanic with a robotic side-kick. Her prince is destined to become the Emperor of New Beijing. Sure, she still has an evil step-mother and two step-sisters to contend with, but in her world there's also a deadly plague and an evil Lunar queen that wants her dead. The stakes are high!

I also like that Cinder's tale doesn't end in the days following the ball. Instead, she's got an adventure ahead of her that will apparently take her to new places and present her with all new challenges. Her prince is really going to have to look beyond his own borders to find her and, hopefully, win her heart.

Highly recommend this for anyone who likes fairytale adaptations that break the norm.
