Older by Jennifer Hartmann
5.0
I have yet to read a book by the author that hasn’t left me in a sobbing mess. While not as messy as the other books by the author, Older was no less emotional. Halley’s trauma was harrowing brought on by hatred I never fully understood. A father whose fists were powerful and a mother who cared only for herself. How does one survive that day after day? She’s called Halley.
“Lost things don’t have to stay lost forever. They can be found.”
She’s wise beyond her years and carries herself with maturity. It’s no wonder Reed believed her lie. But more than that, Halley’s personality and bravery made it difficult to stay away from her force of nature.
“She was defiance. A force. A kaleidoscope in motion.”
I felt for Tara and the betrayal she felt from her father and her best friend. Reed and Halley’s story was not perfect in a way. But its imperfections made it right for them.
“Imperfections are what bind us together.”
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
